Director of Safety and Security
Apr 14 2026
The St. Paul’s Schools is pleased to announce an opening for a full-time Director of Safety and Security.
School Overview
Voted a top workplace in Baltimore, The St. Paul’s Schools is a family of independent schools in Baltimore County, Maryland. Serving children from infancy through grade 12, our three schools share a 120-acre campus, an Episcopal tradition, and a focus on developing confident, well-balanced students who will use their education and ethics to improve the world. A coordinated structure allows The St. Paul’s Schools to preserve the small-school feel within each school while sharing resources and certain programs to maximize opportunities for students.
Mission: Guided by Episcopal values and a commitment to each student’s full journey, a St. Paul’s education inspires us to lead with love, discover and pursue our unique gifts, and act with courage in all we do.
Vision: St. Paul’s students thrive and serve in a global community. We create transformational experiences through innovative and responsive teaching in a diverse community of authentic belonging.
Keeping our community safe, seen, and supported
At our school, safety isn’t just about protocols—it’s about people. It’s about creating an environment where students can explore, employees can teach boldly, and families can trust that care extends beyond the classroom. We’re looking for a Director of Safety & Security who sees the bigger picture: someone who blends preparedness with empathy, leadership with collaboration, and vigilance with approachability. This role will report to our President and will be a 12-month position.
What You’ll Do
You’ll serve as the architect and steward of a safe, secure, and welcoming campus. This role sits at the intersection of planning, people, and real-time decision-making.
- Lead with presence: Build strong, trust-based relationships across the school—students, faculty, staff, and families alike
- Shape strategy: Design, implement, and continuously refine comprehensive safety and security programs, policies, and procedures
- Be ready for anything: Oversee emergency preparedness, crisis response, and continuity planning
- Collaborate widely: Partner with school leadership, local law enforcement, and community agencies
- Guide and mentor: Lead and develop a security team that reflects professionalism, care, and sound judgment
- Educate and empower: Provide training and resources so every member of the community understands their role in maintaining safety
- See around corners: Assess risks proactively and implement solutions that balance security with the school’s mission and culture
- Manage and protect: Oversee all security aligned systems like door locks, FOBs, elevators, access control and video surveillance systems.
Who You Are
- Experienced in safety, security, law enforcement, emergency management, or a related field with a minimum of 5 years managerial experience. School setting is preferred.
- You’re calm under pressure, thoughtful in planning, and deeply committed to the well-being of others.
- A strategic thinker who can also act decisively in the moment
- An excellent communicator who can connect with both adults and students
- A relationship-builder who values visibility and trust as much as systems and structure
- Comfortable navigating complex situations with discretion, professionalism, and sound judgment
- Committed to fostering an inclusive, respectful, and supportive school environment
What Makes This Role Different
This isn’t a behind-the-scenes security position. You’ll be a visible, trusted presence in daily campus life—someone students recognize, employees can rely on, and families appreciate. Success in this role means not only preventing and responding to incidents, but also helping cultivate a culture where safety feels shared, not enforced.
At St. Paul’s Schools, we are dedicated to fostering a nurturing and inclusive learning environment where every individual is celebrated for their unique strengths and contributions. We believe that diversity enriches education, empowering students to reach their fullest potential. By embracing a culture of inclusion, we prepare our students to succeed in an increasingly interconnected and multicultural world. We stand firmly against all forms of prejudice, including those related to race, ethnicity, religion, socioeconomic background, gender identity, sexual orientation, and physical appearance.
The St. Paul’s Schools has a compensation scale based on direct years of experience and degree held. For this opportunity, our salary range is $85,000 – to $100,000 annually. Candidates with additional experience or qualifications may be offered a salary outside of the range shown. In addition, full-time team members gain access to our robust benefits package designed to support your well-being, inside and outside of work. This includes a competitive healthcare package (medical, dental, and vision), disability protection, participation in our 403(b) retirement plan which has an immediate employer contribution and a generous time off package, including wellness days because we believe an educator’s mental and physical health is a priority for them to do their job effectively.
Beyond the basics, we offer extras like a lunch stipend, access to multiple fitness centers on campus and professional development experiences to continue your learning. In addition, full-time employees who choose The St. Paul’s Schools for their children’s educational journey, are eligible to receive a tuition remission benefit. Your salary will be commensurate with your experience and reflect the value you bring to our team.
Why Join Us
You’ll be part of a mission-driven community that believes safety is foundational to learning and growth. Your work will directly impact the daily experience of every student and educator on campus. If you are interested in joining our team, please send your cover letter, resume, and list of references to Shannon Duckett, Executive Director of Human Resources, at sduckett@stpaulsmd.org. The St. Paul’s Schools embraces diversity and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
