Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

The Chief of University Police provides leadership to and supervises the campus police department. The Chief performs duties to enforce federal, state and local laws and University rules, regulations and policies. This position is responsible for the overall safety and security of USCA students, faculty, staff, and property. This safety includes providing Medical First Response to the campus community. The Chief maintains a force of 8 state constables who provide twenty-four a day, seven day a week coverage of the campus. Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in related field and 6 years related experience required. Must be 21 years of age, be physically qualified and have no criminal record. Must pass a background investigation and complete the SC Criminal Justice Academy. 6 years law enforcement experience including 2 years in a supervisory capacity required. Must possess extensive knowledge of SC civil and criminal law and of the state’s criminal justice system. Must have considerable knowledge of laws and court rulings affecting civil rights and must be aware of and sensitive to cultural diversity. Upon employment, must become certified in Medical First Response and in the SCIRBRS criminal data reporting system. Must maintain certification by SC Law Enforcement Training Council. Must be licensed to operate an automobile and possess current firearm certification. Considerable knowledge of SC criminal and civil laws; the rights of the accused; and the function, mission, and responsibilities of the institution. Law enforcement experience with an educational institution preferred. USCA is an AA/ EOE . Women and minorities are encouraged to apply.

Must pass a background investigation and complete the SC Criminal Justice Academy. 6 years law enforcement experience including 2 years in a supervisory capacity required.

Preferred Qualifications

Law enforcement experience with an educational institution preferred.

Must have considerable knowledge of laws and court rulings affecting civil rights and must be aware of and sensitive to cultural diversity.
