Following a review of all applications, the most qualified candidates will be selected to participate in the hiring process. Applicants must complete background paperwork and have a successful interview in order to be placed on the eligible for hire list (i.e. eligibility list). The eligibility list is valid for up to six (6) months. While the department may not have any current openings, applications will continue to be received and reviewed in order to maintain the eligibility list. Those on the eligibility list will be considered for future openings.

An investigative police officer with the department will perform all related duties including, but not limited to, providing investigative support to patrol officers; enforcing State laws and city ordinances; conducting threat assessments; conducting investigations on criminal offenses to gather evidence, obtain witnesses, and make arrests or appropriate referrals; providing documentation and testimony to Judicial Board and courts; and providing general safety for University properties and citizens on campus to ensure a safe environment for all.

Minimum Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent. Must have a minimum of three years of experience as a certified law enforcement officer or equivalent prior law enforcement experience and be able to obtain Nebraska law enforcement certification through the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center’s reciprocity process. Knowledge of constitutional laws and administration of criminal law; arrest and detention; search and seizure; drug control and fingerprinting technique; rules of evidence, identification, and preservation of evidence; and court procedures. Ability to meet, communicate, and work with general public effectively and to react calmly, quickly, and accurately in emergency situations essential. Must successfully pass physical, psychological, and polygraph exams. Minimum age 21 years.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience in criminal investigations, including sexual assaults and domestic violence. Successful completion and applied learning of related training courses.
