Position Summary:

SUNY Geneseo is searching for a new University Police Officer 2 to play a significant role in maintaining the safety and security of our campus. University Police Officers enforce all New York State and local laws, and the student code of conduct on the grounds of the State University of New York. He or she will be charged with full police officer powers under Criminal Procedure Law, Section 1.20(34)(S) and are responsible for the performance of the full range of professional police duties. University Police Officers assist other local, state and federal police officers with investigations, and may collect evidence, question witnesses, or testify in court with alleged criminal actions. Incumbent will be actively involved in campus communities and activities; including educating community members on such topics as personal safety, risk awareness, crime prevention, alcohol awareness, sexual assault prevention and other community safety issues.

Required Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Promotion: One year of permanent competitive service as a University Police Officer 1. Candidates must have permanent appointment in a University Police Officer 2, SG-17 classified position or be reachable for appointment on the current NY State Civil Service canvass list for a University Police Officer 2, SG-17. New York State Preferred Lists candidates have preference.

Job Duties/Responsibilities
Function 1: Administrative duties as follows.

Carrying out department policies, programs and objectives established and/or approved by the Operations Division Commander and Chief of Police
Coordinating patrol and investigative efforts within the shift(s).
Implementing programs for the development of Patrol Section personnel.
Identifying departmental needs that cannot be satisfied with assigned resources and advising the Operations Division Commander of same.
User care and maintenance of all equipment assigned to this section.
Record keeping and the maintenance of daily records regarding personnel duty and assignments.
Function 2: Supervisory duties as follows.-Review, correction and approval of any reports initiated and/or submitted by subordinates.-Quality of performance and proper conduct of personnel assigned to their shift or coming under their control or supervision.-Policy and procedural direction to subordinate personnel and supervisory duties in arrest situations.-The maintenance of discipline and positive morale within the Patrol Section.-Evaluation, training and guidance of subordinate personnel to ensure all assignments are conducted properly.-Identification of training needs for personnel assigned to his/her shift.
