Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant’s suitability and competence to perform in the position.
Patrol designated areas at Seattle Central College and/or Vocational Institute by foot, bicycle or car to enforce laws pertaining to local, state, federal statutes, city ordinances, as well as college rules and regulations;
Assist city or country police and state patrol in cases of emergency;
Respond to calls for assistance and work closely with police officers, firefighters, and senior management;
Direct and regulate traffic;
Investigate accident and/crimes, gather evidence and issue citations for violations;
Possess the ability to administer first aid if necessary;
Locate witnesses and appear in court as required;
Operate department office equipment; receive and document reports of criminal activity;
Dispatch foot patrol units and monitor alarm systems;
Use 2-way radios and other communications equipment to contact department and other officers;
Complete highly detailed reports.
Required Education, Experience & Abilities:
High School graduation or equivalent AND
Two (2) years of full-time college in Police Science or allied field or two (2) years of police or campus security experience.
Must have a valid State of Washington driver’s license
No previous felony or conviction record.
Possess the ability to administer first aid/CPR, if necessary; must become first aid/CPR certified within the first six months of employment.
Must be able to walk and stand for extended period of time and to maneuver uneven surfaces including stairs without assistance.
Must have excellent verbal and written communications skills.
Must be willing to work all assigned shifts.
Must have completed a campus security or law enforcement training academy; or be willing to complete the 80 hrs academy certified by IACLEA/WACLEA (Western Association of Campus Law Enforcement) within the first six months of employment.
Must be willing to become NIMS certified within first year of employment.
Must be willing to participate in ongoing defensive tactics training.
Certified to use OC pepper spray, baton and handcuffs.
Proficient in the use of personal computers and familiarity with Microsoft Office.
CPR/First Aid and (EAD) Automatic External Defibrillator certified.
Familiarity with (NIMS) National Incident Management System.
Familiarity with (EAP) Emergency Action Plans.
Familiarity with earthquake response i.e. what to do before and after.
Must be able to maneuver surfaces including stairs without assistance.
Completion of a Washington State full-time or reserve law enforcement academy.
Five years of excellent, verifiable customer service experience/training, preferably in law enforcement and/or security.
