This position exists to provide administrative/management responsibilities involving the coordination, development and direction of the college’s Public Safety and Security Department. This position also exists to develop strategic plans and initiatives for public safety and security, and college-wide emergency preparedness.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement or related field
Five years work experience in Security or Public Safety resulting in the ability to analyze situations and procedures to recognize safety or health hazards/implications that exist within them.
Three years supervisory experience
Minnesota Certified Emergency Management within two years of employment
Ability to review & evaluate work environments, identify/recognize potential security hazards and emergency management needs and evaluate & apply corrective measures
Knowledge of standard police practices including rules of evidence, investigation techniques and procedures, citizen’s arrest power, loss prevention techniques, intrusion alarms, detection, surveillance systems and networking, radio and communications equipment and fire alarms
Oral and written communication skills sufficient to develop and present training on security and/or emergency management issues/policy/practices, develop and write policies & procedures, programs and reports
Computer skills sufficient to use general office application/productivity software (e.g., computer operating system, e-mail, word-processing, database/spreadsheet, calendar/scheduling, presentation graphics, Internet browser & search software)
Excellent human relations skills to establish effective working relationships with the variety of personnel incumbent will encounter on a daily basis.
Valid driver’s license
Incumbent must pass driving and background checks
Required Physical Requirements:
Physically capable to respond to any emergency situation
Ability to life 50lbs or more
Ability to climb ladders or other structures
24 hour/day on-call status

Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement or related field
Police/Law Enforcement work experience
Ability to complete certification in ICS 100, ICS 200 and ICS 700 Incident Command courses within 6 months
Knowledge of Data Privacy Act and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
Knowledge of FEMA, Clery Act, and Homeland Security requirements sufficient to administer security and emergency management responsibilities
Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) certification
Police/Security work experience in a college/university environment
Ability to deal with diverse populations responding with sensitivity to their needs and concerns
Certified First Responder
Written and oral communications skills sufficient to interview witnesses, victims, suspects, and defuse conflicts and violent situations
