Position Description:
Mississippi State University is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Life Safety Assistant. This position is an integral part of our efforts to provide for the safety of all the students, faculty, staff and guests who attend class, work, live, and visit our campus, as well as, the security of university buildings and property. This position serves as a part of the University Police Department and reports through the Life Safety Division Commander to the Chief of Police. The Life Safety Assistant oversees the day-to-day management of the technology and systems within the Life Safety Division providing assistance to all divisions and departments in regard to the design and procurement of access control, video surveillance and physical security systems in accordance with university standards. Duties can include assisting with the planning, research, and implementation of our standardized Genetec Security Center unified security platform as the required access control and video management product for the campus. The Life Safety Assistant will also oversee the installation, maintenance, repair, modification and testing of access control, video management and physical security systems which include data cable and wiring, electronic door locks, access card readers, door position switches, request to exit detectors, video cameras and other security system related hardware. The minimum qualifications for the Life Safety Assistant position are as follows: • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management, EHS, or related field • Two (2) years’ experience working in security and/or electronic security with demonstrated work history of electronic security systems and integration strategies OR Five (5) years’ experience in electronic security systems of which three (3) years was in supervisory capacity MAY be substituted in lieu of bachelor’s degree. Applicants should have a background in understanding of CCTV, access control, fire and life safety equipment and other related technology, as well as, an understanding of network infrastructure as it relates to CCTV, access control, fire and life safety equipment and other related technology.
