Supervising Experience
Under the general direction of the Assistant Chief of Police performs a wide variety of law enforcement related functions; coordinates and directs the operation of personnel assigned to his/her command; uses independent judgment within the framework of established policies and procedures; identifies and assists in resolving operational problems; prepares work schedules, assigns and delegates responsibilities; evaluates staff performance and makes recommendations for subordinate development; supervises, initiates, and maintains a variety of files and reports as required by the Department; maintains a knowledge of changing laws and police practices; ensures compliance of staff with Department rules, procedures and all special orders from supervisory staff and management; serves as a police officer for the Millersville University Police Department.

Required Qualifications
Experience as a police specialist, principles and practices of police supervision.
Ability to enforce laws, write reports according to specific instructions.
Knowledge of Commonwealth law, rules, and regulations governing motor vehicle operation and personal conduct for employees or visitors at Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education Universities; or of modern police practices and methods used in crime investigation and the identification and preservation of physical evidence; Commonwealth provisions for emergency situations.
Act 120 Certification or ability to be certified as a police officer through the Department of
Educations by date of hire.
Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills and attention to detail within these communications.
Evidence of commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
Demonstrated ability to use tools of police profession such as firearms, emergency vehicles, surveillance equipment and forms of defense (non-lethal and less-than-lethal).
Successful experience working with diverse groups at athletic, social and cultural events.
Ability to meet such qualifications regarding strength, agility and health.
Demonstrated ability to use spreadsheet, database, word processing and other job-specific software.

Ability to:
Lift up to 50 pounds without assistance and move more than 50 pounds with assistance.
Work in adverse weather.
Sit, stand and walk for extended periods of time.
Maintain physical conditioning to be able to handle the physical requirements of the job.
Successful interview, three background clearances: Criminal Background Check (Act 34); Child Abuse History Clearance (Act 151); and FBI Federal Criminal History-Fingerprinting (Act 114), pre-employment physical, psychological, firearms tests and background evaluation.
Preferred Qualifications
CPR/First Aid/AED certification.

Experience:
working with college-age population.
with parking and crowd control.
Two years experience in police patrol supervision.
POSIT patrol supervisor or equivalent training.
Patrol experience centered on community engagement and problem solving.
ICS 100 – 400 certification.
Job Description
Summary Description: Under the general direction of the Assistant Chief of Police performs a wide variety of law enforcement related functions for patrol officers working within a community policing framework; coordinates and directs the operation of personnel assigned to his/her command; uses independent judgment within the framework of established policies and procedures; identifies and assists in resolving operational problems; prepares work schedules, assigns and delegates responsibilities; evaluates staff performance and makes recommendations for subordinate development; supervises, initiates, and maintains a variety of files and reports as required by the Department; maintains a knowledge of changing laws and police practices; ensures compliance of staff with Department rules, procedures and all special orders from supervisory staff and management; serves as a police officer for the Millersville University Police Department.

Responsibilities:
1. Participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for the Department.
2. Plan and prepare work schedules and post them in a manner consistent with the Contract to maintain the efficiency of the unit.
3. Direct the daily activities of all officers assigned to his/her shift, making assignments in a fair and equitable manner.
4. Review daily paperwork of all assigned staff and take corrective action as appropriate. Provide training as needed.
5. Compute and post via computer the activity logs of all officers assigned to the shift or as noted by supervision
6. Assist in the selection and orientation of new or newly assigned staff.
7. Conduct on the job training to develop police knowledge and skills in subordinate staff.
8. Evaluate performance of officers assigned to the shift and recommend additional training or corrective action.
9. Serve as a direct part of the chain of command.
10. Resolve work related problems or forward unsettled problems to the next level in the chain of command.
11. Advise the Chief of Police and other University administration on the status of criminal activity and of all police actions taken.
12. Supervise the police/security function at special events as assigned.
13. Attend meetings, seminars, and conferences when requested to do so.
14. Cooperates with local, state, and federal law enforcement authorities.
15. Serves as a police officer for the Millersville University Police Department and as a member of the assigned platoon.
