Job Responsibilities:
30% Investigates violations of state criminal laws, conducts administrative investigations and investigations of regulatory violations enforced by the department through statute. Conducts Internal Affairs Investigations within the department.

20% Conducts undercover operations, assumes undercover roles, and conducts physical and technical surveillance.

20% Prepares necessary reports on investigations.

15% Gathers evidence, prepares warrants, and effects arrests.

10% Makes physical arrests and transports fugitives.

5% Performs background investigations. Completes other duties and tasks as assigned by the Chief of Police.

Minimum Qualifications:
Three years of experience in law enforcement, investigatory work or military intelligence work, one year of which must have been investigatory work while being employed as a commissioned law enforcement officer.

SUBSTITUTIONS:
College training which included six semester hours per year in law enforcement or criminal justice will substitute for a maximum of two years of the required general experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for one year of experience.

A baccalaureate degree or associate degree in law enforcement or criminal justice will substitute for the two years of required general experience only.

There is no substitution for the one year of required experience in investigation work while being employed as a commissioned law enforcement officer.

Special Requirements:
Must be eighteen years old at time of application.

An applicant will be disqualified if he or she has been convicted of a felony or if there are any indictments or bills of information pending against him or her in which felony charges are included; or if he or she has been convicted within the past three years of hit and run or driving while intoxicated.

A drug screen will be administered prior to employment.

May be required to possess a valid Louisiana driver’s license at the time of appointment.

Required to attend and pass a Police Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certification school.

Some P.O.S.T. certification schools require the passing of a physical examination.

Any college hours or degree must be from a school accredited by one of the following regional accrediting bodies: the Middle States Commission on Higher Education; the New England Commission of Higher Education; the Higher Learning Commission; the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities; the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools; and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

Special Requirements:
Physically strenuous activity relative to the nature of law enforcement is required. Must possess a valid minimum class E driver’s license. Per PS-18 this position is deemed essential to campus operations and will be required to report to or remain on campus during times of emergency or closure. Due to the nature of the position and/or position responsibilities, this position shall be subject to drug/alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67.

Required Certifications and Licenses:
Current Louisiana Peace Officer Standards & Training Council (POST) certification.
Annual firearms certification is required.
