Reporting to the Senior Director of Campus Safety and Security, this position provides operational supervision of Campus Safety Officers. Provides strong leadership to ensure that the Campus Safety Department meets its goals of supporting Lakeland University through providing a safe and secure environment in which will allow students, faculty and staff to learn, grow and enjoy their Lakeland University community experience. Shifts will vary, there will be some third shift and first, but primarily a flex second shift.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Use exceptional customer service skills in all interactions with students, faculty, staff and visitors of the university;
Attend professional development and training programs as required;
Ensures that adequate coverage is maintained at all times, by scheduling officers according to events and campus needs. Works closely with all personnel within the Department to ensure optimum performance and professional standards. Conducts annual performance evaluations and makes recommendations that would result in improvements to the Department overall efficiency.
Complies with all reporting requirements as directed by the State and Federal government regulations. Participates in Title IX investigations and ensures Clery Act compliance (Jeanne Clery Act).
Investigate complaints of disturbance, accidents, infractions and university policy violation activity occurring on campus and undertake appropriate action or response
Develops, and maintain an effective working relationships with various members of the Lakeland Community, and our jurisdictional law enforcement department, and emergency services.
Become fluent using the University’s closed circuit television system, access control, emergency phone system, fire alarm system and the Emergency Notification System.
Assist the Senior Director of Campus Safety in strategic planning of programs and changes to increase the Department’s overall effectiveness and efficiency. Also be able to make recommendations for consideration in relation to departmental policy and procedures.
Assists in the planning and implementation of in-service training programs for the department and assists in the hiring, training and orientation of new Campus Safety personnel pro-staff and student.
Represents the Senior Director of Campus Safety at meetings in the Senior Director’s absence or upon request.
Experience in scheduling officers for 24/7 coverage and for university events
And all other duties as assigned by Senior Director of Campus Safety.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study such as criminal justice, or campus safety administration.
5 years minimum as an assistant director or supervisor for an armed campus safety and security department for an Institution of Higher Education.
Working knowledge necessary to observe and respond to security/public safety situations and to document and report details regarding such; ability to reason, analyze information and make sound judgements.
With or without accommodations the physical ability to perform the essential job functions.
Possess a knowledge of understanding for federal laws related to higher education such as CLERY, VAWA and Title IX.
Must possess excellent management/leadership skills and exemplary customer service skills.
Must possess strong communication skills in both oral and written form
Must have experience working with a diverse population on a University/College campus.
Ability to make confident decisions when identifying possible alcohol and drug use/abuse.
Must make themselves available during non-conventional work hours, such as evenings, weekends and holidays, to address campus safety related issues.
Requires the ability to pass and maintain firearm and patrol rifle certification on an annual basis;
Requires the ability to pass Red Cross Professional Rescuer CPR/AED/First Aid;
Demonstrate ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality;
Ability to use diplomacy and tact when dealing with sensitive situations;
Ability to multitask effectively.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
With or without reasonable accommodation, the physical and mental requirements of this job may include the following: seeing, hearing, speaking, and writing clearly. Occasional reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling. Frequent sitting, standing and walking, which may be required for long periods, and may involve climbing stairs and walking up inclines and on uneven terrain. Additional physical requirements may include, frequent lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds and occasional lifting and /or moving up to 25 pounds.
Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, inclement weather, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Successfully pass a criminal history background check.
Successfully complete and pass a pre-employment physical, including a drug screen, a fitness/agility test, vision test
Successfully complete a psychological assessment.
Possess a current, valid, unrestricted driver’s license.
Possess a Wisconsin Concealed Carry Permit.
Must be able to work mandated shifts and hours
