Required Qualifications:
Bachelor Degree
Minimum of at least ten years full-time law enforcement experience
Minimum of at least three years supervisory experience
Applicants must be currently MCOLES certified or licensed as a police officer as defined by MCOLES at time of hire.
Valid State of Michigan driver’s license with an acceptable traffic record.
No criminal record, which will question credibility or public trust, expected of an officer.
Possess good moral character as determined by a favorable comprehensive background investigation.
Physical, mental and emotional ability to execute duties.
Available to work any shift.
Knowledge of current laws, standards and police procedures. Ability to learn and operate all communication equipment.
Ability to maintain a satisfactory work performance and attendance record.
Demonstrated ability and aptitude as it relates to analyzing, developing and applying policy development and compliance work.
Knowledge of law enforcement accreditation standards
Ability to self-initiate and perform tasks related to accreditation in an organized manner.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and to exercise sound judgement.
Demonstrated ability to keep information confidential
High level knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office and Adobe Professional
Maintain data entry of policy compliance in the PowerDMS program and other needed software as it relates to compliance efforts

Demonstrated knowledge and work in CALEA certification, compliance and policy development
Knowledge of research methods and practices

Law Enforcement Responsibilities:
This is a uniformed and armed police position charged with enforcing state/local laws and the rules of the university. Patrols the campus in a marked unit. Responds to emergency calls for service. Arrest and issue citations as necessary. Provide backup assistance when dispatched. Provide first aid, scene control and/or coordination between backup units, ambulance and hospitals. Respond to and investigate complaints as received or as department requires. Testify at court and subsequent hearings. Serve subpoenas and warrants as requested. Revise and update all complaint reports and perform further actions as appropriate. Keep supervisor informed of progress. Provide surveillance of campus environment and report any unusual and/or unsafe conditions. Responsible for the safety and protection of the campus community, its personnel and property. Provide parking and crowd control at campus events. Act as a liaison between campus community and area law enforcement agencies. Responsible for care and maintenance of all equipment issued by the department. Willingness to exhibit proper attitude and demeanor to establish and maintain good public relations. Successful completion of Field Training program. Attend and complete by demonstrating proficiency all required in-service training programs that includes Medical First Responder training and certification.

Accreditation Manager Responsibilities:
This position will be responsible for obtaining Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) certification for the Department. This position requires a high degree of organization, self-initiation, and aptitude with regard to policy development. This position is responsible for development, review, coordination and implementation of law enforcement standards in a national accreditation process. These efforts will include but will not be limited to the following:

Review, develop and coordinate the implementation and management of Department compliance efforts and Departmental programs related to its accreditation effort.
Conduct complex studies requiring a high degree of initiative, judgement, discretion, knowledge, communication and interpersonal skills to provide a basis for the development of policies and programs regarding overall university security and policing.
Research and compile law enforcement standard compliance efforts of the Department.
Direct, coordinate and facilitate research, review and analyses of administrative procedures by Department staff, including but not limited to: development of standard objectives, implementation efforts and available alternatives; coordination of and participation in the preparation of responses to accreditation requirements, law modifications, and studies related to university policing, including traditional law enforcement issues.
Analyze work methodologies, law enforcement standards, and determine best practices. Draft recommended policies and written directives for review by management.
Performs other similar and related duties as directed by supervisor. This position will be assigned an 8 hour per day Monday through Friday schedule. The position will work out of the Grand Rapids Campus and will be expected to honor a 7-year commitment in the prescribed accreditation role.

Selected candidate may perform standard sergeant tasks as needed and directed by supervisor. When accreditation tasks and process are completed, additional work functions will be assigned.
