Public Safety. The Public Safety Corporal enforces laws and regulations pertaining to the university and provides public service and assistance to student, faculty, staff, and visitors across campus. Work schedule shift is based on needs of the University and may include days, nights, weekends, holidays, and special events.

Essential Functions

Patrols designated area of campus to preserve law and order; prevents and/or discovers commission of crimes, and enforces traffic regulations.
Guides and directs work of subordinate law enforcement personnel.
Answers phone calls and complaints involving fire, traffic, and other incidents, misdemeanors, and felonies and takes appropriate actions.
Prepares records and reports for the use of testifying in court proceedings when necessary.
Assists the Public Safety Sergeant and/or act as shift supervisor in the absence of the Sergeant.
Georgia Southern University is a Tobacco Free Campus.

Minimum Education Required
High School Diploma or equivalent; P.O.S.T. (Peace Officer Standards Training) law enforcement (police) certified or have the ability to obtain P.O.S.T. certification in Georgia as a basic law enforcement officer.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Effective communication (verbal and written), organization and human relations skills; ability to work well in a diverse environment; proficiency with computer and Microsoft Office Applications software including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases; legally authorized to work in the United States; successful completion of background investigation and urinalysis prior to employment.
