Franklin & Marshall College welcomes in-state and out-of-state applicants to apply for the full-time, year round position of Public Safety Officer.
The Franklin & Marshall College Public Safety Department is an Accredited Law Enforcement Agency demonstrating its commitment to enhanced professionalism and excellence in campus safety. The department includes 19 sworn armed police officers, 4 security officers and 4 dispatchers providing safety services through the deployment of vehicle, foot and bicycle patrols. Public Safety is led by Chief William McHale most recently a Major with the Pennsylvania State Police who offers over 20 years of safety leadership.
Our Officers appreciate:

a starting rate of $19.95 and shift differential of $1.25 for hours worked 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

assisting with crowd control during special events;
investigating crimes and incidents, writing reports and enforcing parking regulations.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED and Pennsylvania Act 120 Municipal Police Training Commission Academy certification in accordance with PA law OR have the MPOETC- Out of State Certification OR currently meet all qualifications for the MPOETC- Out of State Certification Exam.
Excellent communication and customer service skills and the ability to calmly and appropriately respond to emergency situations are also vital to this position. Candidates must be competent with computerized information systems and be able to accurately type reports using word processing software.
Public Safety Police Officers are required to drive College-owned patrol vehicles while on duty. Therefore, the successful candidate must possess a valid PA driver’s license. Based on College policy, Officers must also have had a valid U.S. or Canadian driver’s license for at least 2 years, have a driving record that is free from excessive motor vehicle violations within the last 3 years, and have had no convictions in the last 24 months for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Employment is contingent upon a successful background check, including a criminal record check, physical fitness evaluation, pre-employment drug screen and psychological profile. Candidates must be able to qualify with a department issued firearm.
The ability and willingness to provide excellent service and to work in a collegial manner with students, faculty and staff, and other constituencies is essential.
