SCOPE OF WORK: To monitor, maintain and enforce NH State laws, campus rules and regulations and to provide for the safety and welfare of students, faculty, and staff while on college property at River Valley Community College. This position shall report to the Chief Security Officer at River Valley Community College.
Patrols and monitors college property to provide for the safety and welfare of students, faculty, staff and property. Inspects grounds at specified intervals for fire, theft, lighting and other safety hazards and
reports on hazardous conditions within the college campus.
Ensures that the campus is properly secured upon closing and sets the security system after ensuring that all faculty, staff and students have safely exited the building. Conducts routine tests of burglar and fire alarm systems to insure they are working properly.
Enforces college rules and regulations pertaining to students, faculty, staff and visitors while on college property.
Reports violations of law occurring on campus grounds to the appropriate Law Enforcement Agencies.
Investigates all criminal activity that occurs on college property, including the detention of law violators for referral to Law Enforcement agencies. Serves as liaison to Police, Fire and other governmental agencies as required.
Prepares written reports such as daily logs and incident reports relating to security and safety matters and compliance with the Clery Act.
Implements the campus Emergency Operations Plan in cases of emergency and activates campus emergency notification systems, as needed.
Responds to burglar and fire alarm calls on RVCC property to determine cause.
Produces and maintains identification and parking permit cards for students, employees and guests.
Serves students, faculty and staff whenever practicable to provide for their safety and welfare.
Assists the public in locating offices and individual employees and provides general information to students and visitors.
Responds to technology systems and integrates into work assignments, attends workshops, seminars and conferences for professional development.
Complies with all system, college, state, and federal rules and regulations;
Assists in conducting fire drills and other regulatory/compliance/safety training and/or drills, as required.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: Graduation from high school, G.E.D. or its equivalent. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.
Experience: One year’s experience in law enforcement work as a security officer, military police officer, correctional officer or certified police officer.
Licensure/Certifications: Valid Driver’s License.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
A thorough character, reference, criminal background check will be conducted before appointment. Candidates who do not have good character or a conviction free record of serious offenses will be ineligible for appointment.
Have current CPR/AED and basic first aid certification.
Have current National Incident Management System (NIMS) certification.
RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Knowledge of law enforcement work and arrest and/or detention procedures. Skill in dealing with violators of the rules and regulations established for the control of pilfering and damage to college property. Ability to enforce laws in accordance with standard procedure to control pilfering and damage to college property. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to work with people and secure their cooperation without the use of violence. Ability to perform investigations, question witnesses and prepare written reports. Ability to exercise sound judgment when dealing with individuals or groups. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with employees, students, governmental agencies, and the public. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the college’s appointing authority.
