Assists and supports the Chief/Executive Director of Campus Safety in varied department duties by ensuring compliance with University policies, local, state, and federal laws. The primary assignment of this Administrative Lieutenant will be to serve as the Project Manager for the Department of Campus Safety Armament Advancement Program. The incumbent will be charged with the development of associated policies, required training of DCS personnel and implementation of policies and procedures. Additional administrative duties may be assigned.

Required Education

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university
Completion of a P.O.S.T. Basic Police Academy
Possession of an Advanced & Supervisory P.O.S.T. Certificates
Must be able to physically perform all duties and tasks relating to this position

Required Experience

Must successfully pass a criminal, DMV, and financial background investigation
Previous law enforcement, college and/or university Campus Safety, or security management experience preferred; three to five years of law enforcement equivalent and/or private enterprise, in a successful leadership/supervisory role
Demonstrated ability to effectively manage/mentor assigned personnel
Strong and current understanding of legislative and criminal procedures associated with municipal policing
Established relationships with the local law enforcement community

Primary Duties/Essential Functions

Provide executive assistance to the Deputy Chief and Executive Director of Campus Safety.
Enforces university policies, regulations, and municipal, state, and federal laws. Assist local law enforcement as necessary. Must adhere to the DCS Mission Statement and philosophy.
Attends to emergency requests as they arise; renders on site emergency assistance as required with specified protocol and procedure.
Assist with the day-to-day management of the Campus Safety Department.
Direct and control personnel under command to assure the proper performance of duties and adherence to established rules, regulations, policies, and patrol procedures.
Direct the patrol of University property, apprehension of suspects, and recommendations of the disposition of cases of crimes or incidents against the University community.
Oversee follow-up investigations to on campus criminal activity, and University Student Policy violations.
Observe, collect, preserve, file reports, and record physical and oral evidence of crimes and incidents committed on University property.
Provide assurance that department equipment, supplies, and materials assigned to the command are correctly used, inventoried and maintained.
Plan and direct a comprehensive program for the department; train in duties and report writing and supervise all personnel.
Directly supervises department employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring and training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Assist with the Annual Security Report per the Jeanne Clery Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act requirements and compliance.
May be assigned to any shift, which could include working holidays, weekends and events, as determined by leadership.
Perform other duties as deemed necessary under the guidance of the Chief/Executive Director via Chain of Command.

Oversees dispatch and student worker program

Hiring and retention (secondary)
After hour notification (Field Ops)
Responsible for daily electronic timekeeping as it applies to the scope of this position
Regular, punctual attendance as required by the supervisor based on department needs.
Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Physical Demands

Must be in good physical condition.
Ability to walk long distances, bicycle, run, climb, stoop, bend, stand for long periods of time and lift heavy. objects (50 lbs) over head. Hearing and speaking demands.
Possess the physical strength to restrain, control and handcuff a combative person.
Ability to adjust to varied work shifts including weekends, evenings and holidays.

Visual Demands

Requires the ability to read a computer screen, computer-generated reports, and other forms of written documentation.

Environment

Office setting; varied weather condition when involved in outdoor activities.

Technologies

Proficient in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Apps.

Compensation

Grade 10: $53,950 – $70,135 annual
